Brad Arnold, lead singer and founding member of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, died on Saturday at the age of 47, the band's representatives announced.
The band said Brad Arnold passed away peacefully Saturday morning, surrounded by his wife, other family members and loved ones, after losing his battle with cancer, according to TMZ.
The band writes that Brad helped redefine rock music with his collaboration with 3 Doors Down, authoring the chart-topping song “Kryptonite,” which he composed during high school math class when he was 15.
According to Rock FM, it was one of the most famous rock hits of the 2000s.
“His music resonated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connection, joy, faith and shared experiences that will last long after the stages he performed on are gone,” added the band's representatives, who asked that the family's privacy be respected at this time.
This is the band's first post since the video was shared in which Brad confirmed that he was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer in May 2025. The cancer was advanced, being diagnosed at stage 4, having already metastasized to his lungs.
Despite the diagnosis, Brad said he hopes to make a full recovery with God's help, according to the International Business Times.
He had visibly lost weight, but the singer said he didn't panic after learning what was happening to his body.
However, one of the consequences of the diagnosis was the cancellation of the tour that the band had scheduled.
