Nicușor Dan, asked why he did not declare his support for Prime Minister Bolojan: “It's not constitutional, I think so.” At the moment there is a political fracture between the two sides of a coalition”

President Nicușor Dan avoided again, on Monday, in an intervention on Digi FM, to say whether he still supports Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, reasoning that he must be a mediator: “At this moment there is a political fracture between the two parts of a coalition that I would have liked to have functioned. In this sense, I cannot pronounce myself”.

“For months I have been discussing with one and the other, UDMR, USR, and I found that the tension is increasing. We are in a moment where there is a somewhat irreconcilable position between two parties, I have to be a mediator. (…) By the fact that even today at 10.00 that discussion is taking place, in a civilized way, the Romanians should have confidence that we are going in the right direction”, declared the head of state, when asked if he still supports Ilie Bolojan in the position of prime minister.

“It depends which way you look at it”

Asked what he answers to those who consider him a pesedist, Nicușor Dan replied: “It always depends on which side you look at. If you look from the PSD side, I'm sure I'm seen as being from the other side.”

Answering another question related to the fact that he did not declare his support for Prime Minister Bolojan, Nicușor Dan answered. “But it's not constitutional. That's what I think.”

Asked then what he thinks the prime minister is doing right and what he is not doing right, Nicușor Dan answered: “Mr. Bolojan is a very serious person, I have never said anything else. On the other hand, at the moment there is a political fracture between the two sides of a coalition that I would have liked to have worked very much. In this sense, I cannot make a statement. Including on the activity, if I made a statement, I would make a statement on one side or the other of the two sides. Otherwise, of course, all respect for the Prime Minister”.

“I am not in the constitutional position to act”

Asked if the option of a technocrat prime minister is being taken into account, Nicușor Dan answered: “For the moment, I am not in the constitutional position to act. What I can do is to dialogue with everyone, to try to regulate different things in this way. For the moment there is a prime minister, at the moment, if it happens and the discussion about a new prime minister comes, then we will discuss. Yes, until this moment we are here.”

PSD and AUR announced on Monday to submit a joint censure motion against the Ilie Bolojan Government.

Petrişor Peiu and Marian Neacşu claimed that until this moment “absolutely nothing” had been discussed about a future government together, specifying that, “as far as they know”, neither their leaders had made any move in this regard.
