US and Iran negotiations in Oman
Decisions on sanctions and tariffs were announced on the day when U.S.-Iranian negotiations took place in Oman, lasting several hours. According to Reuters During the talks, Iran rejected American calls to halt uranium enrichment.
The agency's source noted that Iran is, however, ready to discuss the “level and purity” of the enriched raw material or alternative solutions, such as the creation of a regional consortium that would deal with it. The diplomat added that, according to Iranian representatives, American negotiators “seem to understand their position” and are showing flexibility towards Tehran's demands. Both sides assured their readiness to resume negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, which raises concerns in the West.
However, Washington wanted to expand the topic of talks to include Iran's ballistic missile program, Tehran's support for armed groups in the region such as Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Houthis in Yemen, as well as the treatment of its own citizens by the Iranian authorities.
