As part of the deregulation, the government adopted a project on Tuesday, thanks to which insurance companies and the Insurance Guarantee Fund will be able to obtain data from the register with a reservation of the PESEL number – wrote the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in the communiqué. This is to allow blocking illegal OC contracts.

On Tuesday, the government adopted a draft amendment to the Act on compulsory insurance, the Insurance Guarantee Fund and the Polish Motor Insurers' Office and the Act on Population Register by the Ministry of Finance.
“The possibility of obtaining data by insurance companies from the register with a reservation of the PESEL number will increase the protection of citizens. The new provisions are a response to cases of use of their personal data to illegal conclusion of OC contracts” – wrote the Chancellery of the Prime Minister in a statement after a government meeting.
She added that the adopted solution would increase the protection of citizens against using their personal data to illegally conclude contracts for compulsory civil liability insurance of motor vehicle owners.
“The new regulations will allow you to block such contracts,” it was emphasized.
It was explained that currently insurance companies cannot verify information in the register of reservations of PESEL numbers.
“This means that they are not able to counteract the possibility of concluding a civil liability contract, using stolen personal data. After change, insurance companies and the Insurance Guarantee Fund will be able to obtain data from the register with the PESEL number. Thanks to this it will be possible to block the conclusion of an illegal civil liability contract” – emphasized. (PAP Biznes)
