Two tough suspensions in tennis » ITIA has sanctioned players for corruption and match-fixing

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has officially announced the sanctioning of two tennis players, following investigations carried out within the Anti-Corruption Program (TACP). It is about an active player in the ITF circuit and a retired former athlete.

Gustavo Tedesco (21), a player from Brazil, was banned for 2 years and 3 months and fined $15,000, $10,500 of which is suspended, after admitting to six anti-corruption violations committed in 2022.

Tedesco, who reached a career-best ranking in January 2023 (ITF No. 423 in singles), was found guilty of:

Events that took place between September and November 2022. The player had 10 working days to appeal, but chose not to contest the sanction. As a result, the suspension period began on January 24, 2026 and will end on April 23, 2028.

Gyulnara Nazarova, four-year suspension

In a separate case, former Russian player Gyulnara Nazarova (27) was suspended for 4 years and fined $10,000 after ITIA's investigation revealed TACP violations in 2019. Nazarova, who reached a career-high 823rd WTA singles ranking in August 2019 and has not been active on the circuit since 2020, was found guilty of corrupt approaches to another player in May 2019

The athlete was formally charged on December 23, 2025, and after failing to respond to ITIA notices, the sanction automatically took effect on January 10, 2026. Her suspension will end on January 9, 2030.

Total ban for the duration of the suspension

  • During the entire period of ineligibility, both athletes are prohibited from:

  • play in official competitions

  • train or provide advice

  • attend any tennis event

The ban applies to all tournaments organized or recognized by the ATP, ITF, WTA, but also the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, as well as affiliated national federations.
