Wales coach Craig Bellamy (46) commented failure with Romania, 1-2 in Ghencea in the friendly match played on Saturday evening.

At the press conference, the former attacking player from Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester City was asked what it was like to face Gică Hagi. He was disappointed that his students failed to take advantage of the spaces left free by the “tricolors”.

“Meeting such a legend is always nice, don't get me wrong. Not much to say about the game. Obviously, he made changes from how he played against Georgia, but the spaces remained the same.

It frustrates me that we haven't been able to capitalize on them, it's disappointing for us. It's my first time in Romania. You'll have to excuse me, I'm quite disappointed. I will not leave Romania with too pleasant feelings”.

Craig Bellamy noticed Drăguș in Romania – Wales: “I liked it”

Bellamy then revealed, in response to a reporter's question, that he was impressed by the “striker, number 9”, i.e. Denis Drăguș, who entered the field in the 64th minute:

“I liked the forward that came in. Number 9. We should have put more pressure on him, for sure, but I liked him.”

Bellamy studied Hagi well: “Many things I had seen”

Later asked if he was surprised by Gică Hagi's election,

“No. Your pressing was a bit different to what you did against Georgia. I know you like to go with the 1-2 system, today you changed it to 2, then 1. That 4-3-3 pressing, but I know you like to drop the midfielder from the 6 position, and it's the same game he used at his club, so it was quite familiar.

I have to be honest, there are many things I have seen in Hagi throughout his matches, including tonight, and I knew he could change the system, because that is what he does at his club. It was a little different from Georgia.

It was more of a 5-4-1. So yeah, it was a bit of a change, but, you know, we usually adapt to whatever the opponent does, so it's not a surprise. If you saw, we started with three players on the bottom line, and then we immediately moved to a two and three, so the players know that. No matter what you do, we have to adapt.

But the spaces were still there. Could we have used them better, could we have been more accurate on the ball than we were tonight?

Because sometimes, that's why we didn't break the lines like we could have, because it was too slow, too behind the player, he had to stop, turn around, then build again. If we had built in one step it would have made a huge difference. So yeah, that's my disappointment,” the Welshman replied.
