The Novosibirsk Zoo said goodbye to the famous long-lived Pallas' cat (video)

4 February 19:00

Novosibirsk Zoo named after R.A. Shilo reported the death of two of its famous inhabitants – Pallas' cat named Zelenogorsk and Karaganda. The long-lived cats, called “elders,” passed away 12 days apart, having lived more than 15 years each.

This is an exceptional age for these animals, since in the wild manulas live on average 6–8 years, and in zoos – about 12.

Zelenogorsk and Karaganda were favorites of both employees and visitors. Despite the fact that Pallas' cats are usually secretive, these males always allowed themselves to be observed and even seemed to pose for photographs. Thus, a video of Zelenogorsk putting his paws on his tail to keep warm went viral and spread all over the world.

Cats have left a significant legacy. Each of them became the father of several dozen cubs. Now their descendants live in zoos in Moscow, Barnaul, as well as in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Poland and Japan, contributing to the international program for the conservation of this rare species.
