As part of a criminal investigation into a road accident in which five people died, Krasnoyarsk investigators interrogated the alleged culprit – a 49-year-old resident of Kansk, who was driving the truck “Iveco”.
It was established that on February 2 the man was towing cargo in his car, transporting it for a private order.
“The driver was transporting a mobile home on an unregistered trailer that was not designed for highway use. The trailer mount was in a faulty condition,” the Investigative Committee said.
At 965 km of the federal highway R-255 “Siberia” in the Rybinsk District, the trailer unhooked from the truck and drove into oncoming traffic, where it crashed into a passenger “Gazelle”, which was being transported from Krasnoyarsk to Kansk schoolchildren and their accompanying persons. IN As a result, three 17-year-olds, an 18-year-old and a 31-year-old woman died on the spot. The remaining seven 17-year-old passengers were hospitalized, two of them are in serious condition. The drivers were not injured.
According to the traffic police, in 2023, the defendant was deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 18 months for driving while intoxicated, after which he did not receive a driver’s license again.
“The man’s actions are qualified under paragraph “c” of Part 6 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles by a person who does not have the right to drive, resulting in the death of two or more persons),” the Investigative Committee said.
In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a criminal investigation into a road accident that resulted in the death of five people continues.
“I do not deny that I was involved in a traffic accident. At this time, I have nothing more to explain,” the 49-year-old driver said during interrogation.
In court, he explained that it was all a matter of chance and he was not responsible for the trailer, and considered the preventive measure in the form of detention to be too harsh for himself.
The prosecutor insisted on the arrest of the Iveco driver, pointing to his repeated administrative prosecution for traffic violations – 190 times in 5 years, driving without a license, as well as the severity of the consequences of the accident. The prosecution believes that, while at large, the man could destroy evidence and interfere with the investigation. As a result, the court sent him to a pre-trial detention center for 1 month and 29 days.
