According to Polish news site Onet, a mid-level staff member was detained by Poland's military counter-intelligence service at his workplace shortly after 08:00 local time (07:00 GMT) and later escorted from the building.
The Ministry of Defense in Warsaw later confirmed the detention of a senior employee in the institution, stating that he is accused of “collaboration with a foreign intelligence service”, without explicitly mentioning the country involved.
The Russian Embassy in Poland has not yet provided an answer to requests for comments sent by the Reuters agency.
Polish authorities say Poland's role as a logistical hub for aid to Ukraine has made the country a prime target for espionage, sabotage and cyber attacks attributed to Russia. Moscow has repeatedly rejected these accusations, accusing Western states of anti-Russian propaganda.
According to Onet, the detained man is currently under interrogation, and the Ministry of Defense in Warsaw stated that other arrests in this case cannot be ruled out.
