PepsiCo is slowing down in Europe. The changes will affect hundreds of employees


According to Spanish media, PepsiCo is preparing to submit an application for Expediente de Regulación de Empleo (ERE), a formal procedure enabling collective layoffs. Last year, the company already reduced employment, dismissing 177 employees, although initially it was planned to eliminate 250 jobs.

PepsiCo is planning major changes in its distribution model
PepsiCo representatives informed that the company is moving from its current direct sales model to cooperation with external distributors. According to the Spanish trade union federation UGT FICA, the restructuring will cover 11 PepsiCo locations throughout the country. Trade unionists have already been informed about the planned changes.
The company's decision was criticized by employee representatives. Trade unions described it as disproportionate and unjustified, emphasizing that it would affect hundreds of people employed in various regions of Spain.

PepsiCo's position on large layoffs in Spain
In response to questions from the Just Food portal, the American corporation PepsiCo said that the transformation of the distribution channel in Spain will be implemented gradually and responsibly. The company announced the establishment of a negotiation committee, which will include representatives of both employees and the management board. The aim of these activities is to develop solutions that take into account the needs of employees and business interests.
PepsiCo emphasized that the changes are consistent with current trends in the industry and are intended to complete the transformation process of the distribution channel. The company also assured its commitment to finding the best solutions for all parties.

In 2023, PepsiCo announced plans to cut 250 jobs in Spain due to changes to its distribution model. Ultimately, according to media reports, 177 people lost their jobs. The company's current plans mean that the restructuring process will continue and the number of dismissed employees may increase.
