EU funds for network modernization. PGE Dystrybucja focuses on innovation


PGE Dystrybucja branches in Zamość and Rzeszów will receive a total of over PLN 208 million from European Funds for Eastern Poland. Minister Hennig-Kloska emphasized that the investments are aimed at modernizing networks that are often outdated. As she noted, the modernization is intended to increase the resistance of the infrastructure to extreme weather phenomena, such as icing, storms or heavy rains.

— The largest energy distributors receive support to modernize networks that often date back to Gierek's times, said the minister, adding that the goal is to reduce the number of failures.
The investments are also intended to facilitate the connection of new, distributed energy sources, which is necessary in the context of the energy transformation. — Our energy sector is changing from a system based on large coal and gas units to prosumer and distributed energy, which requires modernization of the entire system, Hennig-Kloska noted.
Details of investments in regions
The Rzeszów branch of PGE Dystrybucja will receive over PLN 76.4 million for the development of a smart power grid. The plans include, among others: construction of new GPZ stations (Main Power Supply Point) in Krosno, Błażowa and Połaniec, modernization of stations in Leżajsk and Staszów and expansion of the Jeziórko station. Additionally, the construction of two underground high-voltage lines with a voltage of 110 kV is planned in Błażowa.
In turn, the Zamość branch of the company will receive PLN 131.7 million for investments, which include the modernization of the GPZ station in Munin, the construction of a station in Dorohusk and an almost 24-kilometer high-voltage line Chełm-Dorohusk. The reconstruction of the Rejowiec-Chełm and Lubaczów-Tomaszów Południe lines is also planned.
The total costs of both projects are PLN 193.8 million and PLN 266.6 million, respectively. According to PGE Dystrybucja's announcements, the investments will improve the quality of power supply for over 100,000. recipients and economic development of border regions.
European funds and long-term plans
Vice-President of PGE Dystrybucja Marcin Laskowski announced that over the next 10 years the group plans to allocate PLN 75 billion for the development and digitization of the distribution network. Funds for this purpose are to come from, among others: from EU funds.
— Over the last 10 years, PGE has obtained over PLN 24 billion from subsidies and preferential loans from the European Union, of which PLN 17 billion was allocated to distribution, Laskowski calculated.
He also emphasized that the modernization of the network is not only to increase resistance to extreme weather conditions, but also to protect the system against cyberattacks. — The investments being implemented are intended to ensure not only stable energy supplies, but also the country's military security – he pointed out.
