PKP Cargo dismissed 450 people last year. This is not the end of the changes


PLN 2,000 was awarded as part of group layoffs at PKP Cargo in 2024. 515 notices of termination of employment contracts. For other reasons, such as acquiring pension rights or expiration of employment contracts, 1,150 employees left the company. In turn, in 2025, as a result of another wave of group layoffs, PKP Cargo dismissed 450 employees — the company said on Tuesday.
PKP Cargo is undergoing restructuring, which was officially announced in July 2024. The management board then decided to carry out group layoffs by the plants and the company's headquarters, as a result of which employment decreased by 3,665 employees. At the beginning of June 2025, the company announced plans for further job cuts – to 1,041 people in 2025 and to 1,388 in 2026.
At the end of December 2025, the company employed 8,000. 415 employees. The announcement quoted by PAP stated that the employment level at PKP Cargo before the launch of the group layoff procedure at the end of 2024 was 13,000. 376 employees.

PKP Cargo is a joint-stock company listed on the Stock Exchange. The largest shareholder is PKP SA with a 33.01% share in the capital. Funds managed by Nationale-Nederlanden PTE SA have 12.08%, and other shareholders – 54.91%.
In the third quarter of 2025, the company generated PLN 7.5 million in profit and PLN 36.1 million in operating profit. According to the company's information, during the nine months of 2025, the company allocated PLN 304.2 million for investments, i.e. 42.9% less. compared to the same period in 2024. They were related to the purchase of tangible fixed assets and intangible assets, modernization and the so-called renovation component (repairs and periodic inspections of rolling stock).
The restructuring proceedings are ongoing. As part of it, the company made a key decision in January 2026 and is getting rid of one of its daughter companies. This will be taken over by another state-owned company – PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.
