Moneylender, caught in the act while receiving 160,000 lei. He blackmailed and threatened the young man to whom he had lent money
A 42-year-old man, from Ţicleni, was detained for blackmail and usury, he was caught red-handed while receiving 160,000 lei requested from a 29-year-old man, the spokesperson of the Gorj County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), Miruna Prejbeanu, informed on Wednesday.

According to her, on Tuesday, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service within the IPJ Gorj continued the investigations in an ongoing criminal case, registered at the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Târgu Jiu Court, regarding the commission of the crimes of usury and blackmail, committed to the detriment of a 29-year-old man, from the commune of Stăneşti, consisting in the fact that, in the period 2024-2025, the then he would have borrowed different amounts of money from a 42-year-old man from the town of Ţicleni, for which he would have charged monthly interest, writes Agerpres.
In this context, the 42-year-old man, through various psychological constraints and threats of acts of violence, would have determined the young man to pay the interest charged for the borrowed amount, a circumstance in which, currently, he would have asked him to return 150,000 euros.
At the same time, the investigation showed that the person in question had also threatened another 39-year-old man from Scoarţa commune with acts of violence, in order to induce him to remit 10,000 euros, representing the capital and interest of a loan from nine years ago.
“Based on the administered evidence, on January 22nd it was ordered to continue the criminal investigation against the 42-year-old man, for the commission, in competition, of two crimes of blackmail and one crime of usury. On January 27th, following the operative activities carried out in the municipality of Târgu Jiu, the man in question was caught in the act, at the time of receiving the sum of 160,000 lei, requested by him from the 29-year-old. At the same time, after being caught red-handeda house search was carried out at a house that the 42-year-old man owns in the municipality of Târgu Jiu, after which he was taken to the IPJ Gorj headquarters, for further investigations. The person in question was detained for 24 hours (…), to be presented to the Prosecutor's Office next to the Târgu Jiu Court, with appropriate proposals, on January 28″. Miruna Prejbeanu mentioned.
In the case, he also benefited from the specialized support of the Special Actions Service and the Gorj Forensic Service.
