A former footballer was convicted of orchestrating a robbery against his own in-laws. He sent his accomplice to steal £108,000

Criminal problems for ex-footballer Georgian Bordeanu after robbing his own family. Under the pretext of a dinner in the city, Bordeanu took his in-laws out of the house so that a thief, his accomplice, could enter and steal 108,000 pounds, an amount hidden in a couch chest.

The incident took place in July 2025, and Bordeanu's wife began to suspect him after noticing the lack of signs of a break-in. Faced with suspicions, the former footballer admitted the facts and asked for forgiveness.
On March 9, 2026, the Bacău Court sentenced Georgian Bordeanu to two and a half years in prison with suspension for inciting aggravated theft. His accomplice received a two-year suspended sentence for aggravated theft. Both were ordered to pay 20,000 pounds to the civil party in pecuniary damages. The decision is not final and may be appealed.
The investigators show that Bordeanu involved a former employee at his car wash, and gave him the details about the location of the money. While the in-laws were at the restaurant, the thief entered the apartment, stole the money and quickly left the home, hiding his identity. The accomplice later spent some of the money on a BMW and several iPhones, being rewarded with £28,000.
Georgian Bordeanu had an acclaimed career in Bacău and Italian football, playing for clubs such as FCM Bacău, Aerostar Bacău and Virtus Lanciano. After retirement, he worked as a goalkeeper coach at FC Bacău and later at Aerostar Bacău, but his contract was terminated after the emergence of criminal problems.

The Clubul Sportiv Fotbal Club Bacău association, legally represented by the president Cristian Ciocoiu, made clarifications about Georgian Bordeanu. He held the position of goalkeeping coach at the club until July 1, 2025.
Currently, the club categorically disassociates itself from any actions or deeds that belong to it. The activity of the sports club is carried out on the basis of essential principles, such as respect, fairness and responsibility.
