This is the second settlement in Ukraine after Lviv where testing of the technology began.
The next cities where 5G will be launched will be Kharkov, Odessa and Kyiv.
“The 5G pilot in Borodyanka will help test the technology in a city with restored infrastructure after Russian shelling. In this way, we will be even more effectively prepared for a full launch throughout Ukraine after the end of martial law,” the Ministry of Digital Development said in a statement.
The pilot project will last until December 2026. As the department noted, this time is needed to:
- check the compatibility of 5G equipment with military systems;
- mobile operators – assess the demand for technology;
- the state – to prepare the terms of licenses and the cost of frequencies for future auctions after the end of martial law.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development, 35 5G base stations have already been installed in Ukraine. The technology provides ultra-fast Internet with minimal latency. Today, the technology is supported by more than 25% of Ukrainian smartphones.
Context
The pilot launch of 5G in Lviv took place on January 12. According to the Ministry of Digital Development, in the first 24 hours more than 80 thousand users connected to the technology in the city.
