Meta has officially confirmed that it is starting to test new subscription levels in its most popular applications: Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.

The giant wants to offer users Premium features that are intended to “unlock creativity and productivity”, especially in the area of artificial intelligence.
Although Meta Verified (a paid verification tag) has been around for some time, the new plans involve something much broader. This time, subscriptions are intended not only for creators and companies, but also for ordinary users who want to have greater control over their accounts and access to the most modern tools.
What will be included in Premium packages?
According to information provided to TechCrunch, Meta plans to diversify its offer depending on the platform:
-
Instagram: Paid users can gain the opportunity anonymous browsing of Storiesaccess to unlimited recipient lists and insight into the list of people who have unfollowed them.
-
Artificial intelligence (AI): the key element is to be integration with an AI agent called Manus (recently purchased for nearly $2 billion) and a tool Vibes to generate video. These features, previously free, may move to a freemium model – with a limit for free accounts and full access for subscribers.
-
WhatsApp and Facebook: details about these platforms are still being kept under wraps, but Meta says they will focus on “greater control over how users connect and share content.”
What about free access?
Mark Zuckerberg reassures: the basic versions of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will remain free. Subscriptions are to be only an optional extension for the so-called “power users”.
However, experts point to the phenomenon of “subscription fatigue”. Meta will have to offer truly groundbreaking features to convince us to open our wallets in a world where we already pay for Netflix, Spotify or YouTube Premium.
