A parking lot with a shelter function will be built in Legnica

A parking lot is to be built in the center of Legnica, which will also serve as a shelter. It will accommodate 400 to 500 cars and, in an emergency, 1,040 people. The building will be built under the marketplace at the corner of Partyzonów and Skłodowska-Curie streets. An investment tender is underway in the city.

The city assumes that the basic function of the facility will be a two-story underground parking lot, which can also serve as a shelter. The investment is to be carried out in the area currently occupied by a marketplace at the corner of Partyzonów and Skłodowska-Curie streets.

Not only for cars, but also in disaster situations

Officials estimated the parking capacity at 400 to 500 parking spaces. In the event of natural or military disasters, the building will be a shelter with separate stay zones, sanitary facilities and first aid areas. There will also be warehouses for supplies with access to water, emergency sewage disposal and the necessary installations. Officials want the shelter to be able to accommodate 1,040 people.

As Grzegorz Koczubaj, spokesman for Legnica Municipal Office, informed PAP on Wednesday, a tender procedure is underway to prepare a functional and utility program for the shelter. Two companies contacted her.

“Both offers met the formal requirements. The bidder who submitted the cheaper offer was asked to complete the documentation as required,” he wrote in response to questions asked by PAP.

He added that the next stage, unless the competitor files a protest, will be to select a contractor and sign a contract with him. The functional and utility program is to be ready by mid-December this year.

The cheapest offer, submitted by one of the companies from Bielsko-Biała, amounted to PLN 231,000. PLN 240. The second one offered by the Wrocław-based company was more than PLN 63,000 more expensive. zloty.

The city market will not disappear

The building is to be built in the place where the city market is currently located.

“No one intends to liquidate the city market in this place. The implementation of the investment will mean that after its completion it will be possible to renovate the market square and develop this space in a way that will not only continue to fulfill its functions, but will also be aesthetic,” assured Maciej Kupaj, mayor of Legnica, quoted in the city press release.

While the investment is being carried out, the city will look for an alternative place for merchants to conduct their business. (PAP)
