EUR 20 million for the victims of the Adamuz disaster. Spain accelerates payments

The Spanish government will pay EUR 20 million in compensation to the victims of the Adamuz train disaster in the province of Cordoba, which occurred on Sunday, January 18. In this one of the greatest railway tragedies in the history of the country, 45 people died and over 100 were injured.

– We will not allow the situation with Angrois i to repeat itself make victims wait 10 years for compensation – Transport Minister Oscar Puente said on Tuesday at a press conference, referring to the largest railway disaster in Spain in the 21st century, which occurred in 2013 in Galicia; 80 people died then.

The families of the victims of the accident in Adamuz, as well as the family of the driver who died on Tuesday, January 20, in a train accident in Catalonia, will each receive PLN 210,000 over the next three months. euro, of which 72 thousand euro is tax-free aid; the remaining funds will come from insurance.

According to Puente, the injured in both disasters, the number of which is 164, they will receive from PLN 2.4 thousand to PLN 84 thousand. euros, depending on the severity of the injuries sustained.

The People's Party (PP), the country's largest opposition party, has stepped up criticism of the Socialist government after four rail accidents over the past week, demanding the resignation of the Transport Minister.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will present a report on last week's train accidents to the Congress of Deputies, the lower house of parliament, on February 11. However, the head of government refused to appear in the Senate, as demanded by the PP.

On Monday, the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF), which is investigating the causes of the tragedy in Adamuz, announced that the main hypothesis focuses on a crack in the track joint. Puente has consistently maintained that the line where the accident occurred passed all necessary inspections.
