German Chancellor after the Trump-Zełenski meeting: Europe must strengthen its support

Donald Trump met with Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday at the White House. The leadership conversations were difficult. The US president said that Vladimir Putin wants to end the war, while Zelensky said the Russian leader is not ready for peace. The talks also concerned, among others, weapons.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Saturday during a meeting with residents of Meschede that Germany will support Ukraine “financially, politically and, of course, also militarily.”
According to the chancellor, quoted by ntv, Ukraine's capitulation is out of the question because in such a case Russia could attack another European country.
Meeting of Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. The US will not sell Tomahawk missiles?
Discussions at the White House also concerned, among others: weapons and Tomahawk missiles, which Ukraine is seeking to sell. The US president suggested during the conversation that he would not sell them to Ukraine because the United States needed them.
Some German media believe that Zelensky's visit to the White House may be disappointing for the Ukrainian president because he did not obtain consent to purchase Tomahawk missiles.
Donald Tusk: Europe's solidarity with Ukraine is more important than ever
Prime Minister Donald Tusk, commenting on the meeting of the leaders of the US and Ukraine, also emphasized how important Europe's solidarity with Ukraine is in this situation.
“After President Zelensky's talks at the White House with European leaders yesterday, one thing is absolutely clear: Europe's solidarity with Ukraine against Russia's aggression is more important today than ever before” – wrote Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the X platform.
Has Donald Trump given up pressure on Russia?
The leaders' talks were commented on by Kateryna Lisunova, an activist of the Razom for Ukraine organization that lobbies for support for Ukraine in Washington.
It is clear that President Donald Trump has abandoned the path of putting pressure on Russia, but in the absence of diplomatic results, the pressure to take more decisive action will only increase, she said in an interview with PAP.
She said that the very fact that Vladimir Putin returned to talks with Trump and proposed another leaders' summit proves that the policy of pressure against Russia – although so far only verbal – is bringing results. At the same time, she admitted that after the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump in the White House, it was also clear that, at least for now, the American leader had abandoned the policy of pressure in favor of direct negotiations.
