In Krasnoyarsk, throughout 2025, a whooper swan was spotted on the Yenisei and its tributaries, which has been listed in the Red Book of the Krasnoyarsk Territory since 1998. This was reported by the press service of KrasnoyarskX Pillarov

According to national park specialists, in March last year the bird was photographed on the Yenisei between Shaluny's bull and steamcom «Roev Ruchto her”. At the end of May it was recorded in Ust-Mana. Later, the swan, having examined the surroundings, climbed several kilometers along the Mana, almost to the southern border of the national park. And in early June, the whooper was already seen again on the Yenisei, in the area of Sosnovy Island.

“But the most amazing thing in this story is that the swan, as it turned out, remained on the Yenisei that he loved. In December he was noticed again, only now at a boat station, not far from Krutovsky’s garden. He allowed people within 20 meters. The dogs actively defending the territory on the shore did not bother him. Climbing into icy water is a dubious pleasure for dogs, but the whooper's ability to fly is in place. The swan stayed close to the shore, hiding behind buoys from the wind, calmly cleaning itself and, of course, feeding. After all, there is more than enough food – mainly aquatic plants – even in winter in the Yenisei. Along the way, it fed on aquatic invertebrates. Moreover, whoopers, carried away by collecting food, can stand with their tail up, although this was not observed with “our” bird. It is impossible to say whether it is a male or a female: outwardly these birds are indistinguishable. It also remains a mystery why he stayed here for almost a year,” clarified by the press service of the national park.

However, before the January frosts, the Red Book bird disappeared from its beloved location. But this does not mean that the swan flew far. Because of the frosts and the soaring Yenisei, the birds staying in the middle of the river were simply not visible.

Besides, On January 24 and 25, a waterfowl census took place in Krasnoyarsk, during whichth Rare birds were discovered on the Yenisei: long-tailed duck, stone willow, wigeon, pintail, and the long-familiar large mergansers and goldeneyes.
