“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a transshipment port for China to ship goods and products to the United States, he is wrong,” Trump wrote.
He added that if Canada and China sign a trade agreement, the United States will “immediately” impose 100 percent tariffs on Canadian goods.
Trump also warned that entering into a trade deal with China could negatively impact the Canadian economy, businesses and the country's social structure.
The Canada-China deal has upset Donald Trump
A week earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced in Beijing about a preliminary agreement with China, which assumes the abolition of trade barriers, reduced tariffs on Canadian agricultural products and the opening of the Canadian market to Chinese electric cars.
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, which ended on Friday, Carney delivered a speech criticizing US policy, which was widely commented on in the world media. Shortly thereafter, Donald Trump withdrew his invitation to Canada to join the Peace Council he established during his presidency.
