A witness told AFP in a restaurant in Baghdad that he saw explosions in the sky caused by the actions of the embassy's air defense forces intercepting missiles.

Another person reported a fire at the facility. According to an Iraqi security service representative, the fire was caused by a drone attack.

At least three drones carrying explosives attacked another US diplomatic mission near Baghdad International Airport, triggering air defense systems, AFP and Reuters sources added.

The US Embassy was also hit by an Iranian missile on Saturday, and on Monday evening, after a drone strike, a fire broke out on the roof of a hotel near the facility. However, this incident did not cause any loss or damage.

Reuters, citing sources related to the security services, reported that the morning attack was the most intense since the beginning of the war in the region, which began on February 28 with the American-Israeli bombing of Iran.

In response to these actions, Iran and its affiliated armed groups are attacking US targets in the region, including military bases and diplomatic missions. (PAP)
