At an auction in Tokyo, a box containing 68 Sato Nishiki cherries was sold for a record 1.8 million yen, the Japan Times reported. This means that approximately PLN 600 was paid for a single fruit.

The cherries were sold for such a high price, among others. because producers began to use intensive cultivation, requiring cooling and heating of the trees. Thanks to this, harvesting can take place at unusual times. Previously, they could only be collected from May.
The Sato Nishiki variety was created almost a hundred years ago. It boasts a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness.
JA Tendo Foods, which won the auction, plans to sell fruit online. (PAP)
