Hungary cannot support Ukraine's war efforts, but will continue to provide electricity, fuel and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Thursday in a public Facebook response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, MTI news agency reports.
“Dear Volodymyr, it seems we will never get along. I am a free man serving the Hungarian people. You are a man in a difficult position, unable or unwilling to end a war now in its fourth year – despite the US president offering all possible assistance,” Orban wrote.
Flattery will not change our position. The Ukrainian people, despite your selective insults, can still rely on Hungary for electricity, fuel and refugee support. The rest will be regulated by life and everyone will get what they deserve,” the Hungarian prime minister added, signing himself “Viktor”, in the message, according to Agerpres.
His response comes after Zelenski sharply criticized several European leaders, including Viktor Orban, in his speech at the World Economic Forum, calling on the continent's countries not to allow their capitals to become “little Moscows”.
“We all see that the forces that are trying to destroy Europe… They are acting freely, even inside Europe. Every Viktor who lives on European money, while trying to sell European interests, deserves a slap on the head, and if he feels comfortable in Moscow, that does not mean that we should let European capitals become little Moscows,” Zelensky said during the speech, in an obvious reference to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, considered the closest European ally of the Kremlin.
