PNL decided, in an online meeting on Monday evening, to support Mihai Dimian for the position of Minister of Education. The proposal came from the PNL leader, Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, and received the support of the party, according to HotNews sources.

According to the protocol of the governing coalition, the Education portfolio goes to the Liberals. In Monday's meeting of the liberals, Ilie Bolojan went with only one proposal: Mihai Dimian, who from 2024 is the rector of the University of Suceava. He taught until 2016 in the USA at Howard University in Washington DC

Mihai Dimian has a degree in mathematics and physics and a doctorate in electrical engineering, obtained in Maryland, USA.

It follows that Ilie Bolojan will make the proposal to President Nicușor Dan, who must sign the decree appointing Mihai Dimian to the position of Minister of Education.

The appointment comes more than two months after the former minister, Daniel David, announced his resignation. The post was taken over by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on an interim basis, but his term in office expired on February 28, as reported by HotNews.

Among the names that Ilie Bolojan considered for the position of Minister of Education in these two months were Marilen Pirtea (rector of the Western University in Timișoara), as well as Luciana Antoci (prime minister's advisor in the field of education).
