French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Davos summit that a meeting of G7 leaders in Paris is not planned. The proposal to hold such a meeting after the Davos summit was contained in an SMS previously published by US leader Donald Trump.

– No meeting is scheduled. The French presidency (of the G7) is ready to carry it out, Macron said. He explained that he did not plan to hold talks with the US president in Davos.
In a conversation with journalists, Macron also said that NATO is currently a “weakened institution”; these words were said in the context of tensions around Greenland due to the United States' claims to the island.
Trump publishes private text message
Earlier, Trump posted an image on his social media site showing the content of a text message in which the French president offered to organize a meeting of G7 leaders in Paris after Trump's visit to Davos. According to AFP, it would take place on Thursday.
In Paris it was confirmed that the content of the SMS is authentic. Macron told reporters in Davos on Tuesday that he had no particular reaction to its publication. He assured that he has a habit of maintaining consistency between his public and private activities.
On Tuesday, Trump posted the content of a text message from Macron on his Truth Social social networking site. “My friend, we are completely of the same opinion on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I don't understand what you are doing on Greenland,” wrote the French president. He then offered to organize a meeting of G7 leaders in Paris after Trump's visit to Davos. “I can invite Ukrainians, Danes, Syrians and Russians on the sidelines,” Macron wrote. He also invited the American president to dinner in Paris that same day.
Also on Tuesday, Trump posted a message from the NATO chief: “Mr. President, dear Donald, what you have accomplished in Syria today is incredible. I will use my media appearances in Davos to highlight your actions there, in Gaza and in Ukraine. I am committed to finding a solution to Greenland. I look forward to our meeting. Regards, Mark.”\
“My friend, we are of the same opinion.” Macron's message to Trump was leaked
Trump explained to the New York Post why he published private messages from French President Emmanuel Macron and NATO Secretary General Marty Rutte:
– This proved my point. They say: oh, let's meet for dinner, let's do this, let's do that. This proved my point, he said.
The president added that Macron and Rutte praised his actions in Syria. – I did a great job. Do you know what I did? I stopped an escape from prison, he said.
– European terrorists were in prison. They had a prison break. And in cooperation with the Syrian government and the new Syrian leader, they captured all the prisoners. They put them back in prison, and these were the worst terrorists in the world, all from Europe, he added.
Threat of tariffs on wine and champagne
France is one of the European countries that sent groups of soldiers to Greenland, and the United States responded by announcing the imposition of increased customs duties on these countries. Trump also said on Tuesday that he would impose 200 percent tariffs on French wines and champagnes. This announcement came after France did not respond positively to the invitation to join the Peace Council created by Trump for the Gaza Strip.
