Gordeev day
The celebration of Gordeev's Day began in honor of the martyr Gordius, who in 320 was tortured in Caesarea in Cappadocia for openly speaking out in defense of Christians.
In Rus', peasants believed that on this day hungry witches, returning from the festivities, milked cows with such force that they died. To avoid this, they tied a tallow candle over the gate and asked the brownie to look after the cattle. One of the common conspiracies goes like this: “Grandfather Brownie, water my little cow, feed and feed her, run smoothly. Run, milk, along the veins and into the notch, from the notch into the milk pan and along the lids to a thick sour cream.”
On this day, it was also customary to cook oatmeal in milk and feed it to the cows. However, the owners themselves did not disdain this dish.
According to the belief associated with the name of the holiday, on Gordeev's Day you cannot boast about your goods, health, or children – in other words, you cannot be proud. Otherwise, the object of boasting may be lost.
It was also believed that only on this day could a healer or a healer cure an epileptic patient, or a “damaged” person.
