An Iranian ship with weapons for Russia sinks in the Caspian Sea. The crew was evacuated

From October 2024 to December 2025, the Iranian vessel called Rona moored at least twenty times in the Russian ports of Astrakhan, Makhachkala and Azov, arriving from the Iranian ports of Amirabad and Anzali. According to available information, this ship was a key route for transporting military equipment between Iran and Russia.
Where did the Iranian ship sink?
How many people were on board the ship?
What actions did the coastal services take?
What weapons does Iran supply to Russia?
The SOS signal was received by the coastal services of Turkmenistan, which immediately started a rescue operation. All crew members – Iranian and Indian citizens – were evacuated. In total, there were 14 people on board the ship.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan emphasized that the services had taken all necessary actions to save those on board.
Iran's alliance with Russia continues
Iran has been supplying Russia with modern weapons for years, including Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles that are used in attacks on Ukraine. The Russians also use Iranian technology and develop their own production of these drones, calling the UAVs they produce “Geran”.
However, Tehran does not limit itself only to supporting Russia. For years, it has been actively involved in activities in the Middle East and is building its own sphere of influence, opposing the position of the United States, Israel and some Arab countries.
