A Wizz Air aircraft that had operated a flight on the Bergamo-Sibiu route was involved, on Tuesday, in an incident on the ground, after landing at Sibiu Airport. During the turn maneuver to enter the taxiway to the parking platform, in heavy snow conditions, the airplane reached the edge of the runway. Air traffic was not disrupted. The incident will be the subject of an internal safety investigation.
The representatives of the Sibiu International Airport announced that on Tuesday afternoon, the Wizz Air aircraft that operated a commercial flight on the Milan Bergamo (BGY) – Sibiu (SBZ) route was involved in an “operational event” on the ground, after landing safely at the Sibiu International Airport, writes News.ro.
“The landing took place in heavy snow conditions, with the runway cleared and declared operational at the time of the aircraft's arrival, in accordance with applicable snow removal procedures. After landing, during the turn maneuver to enter the taxiway to the parking pad, the aircraft reached the edge of the runway. In accordance with safety procedures, ground crews assisted in clearing the aircraft from the runway by guiding it on the taxiways, so as not to disrupt the airport traffic, and the scheduled flights were operated according to the flight schedule. The event occurred on the ground at low speed and ended without incident,” said the quoted source.
At the same time, the passengers were disembarked in accordance with standard operating procedures.
“We specify that it was not necessary to close the maneuvering surfaces or the airport. After the intervention of the ground teams, the aircraft taxied normally to the platform, it being at this moment in service, making the Sibiu-Birmingham flight. The event will be the subject of an internal safety investigation, carried out according to the applicable procedures, in order to clarify the circumstances of its occurrence”, the airport representatives also sent.
