The Sverdlovsk region is among the top three in terms of targeted enrollment in universities

The Sverdlovsk region has become the third region in Russia in terms of the number of students enrolled in universities in the target field, reports Uralsky meridian“

In total, 1,638 people from the Sverdlovsk region received such training in the current academic year. The first two places in the ranking of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation were taken by Moscow (6.71 thousand students) and St. Petersburg (4.12 thousand people). The Krasnoyarsk Territory was only in 11th place in the ranking (in 2024 it was 10th).

The most popular target areas were general medicine and pediatrics. In third place is pedagogical training in two profiles.

Particular attention in the Sverdlovsk region is paid to the training of doctors. To support medical students, the amount of their annual scholarship has been increased, the Ural Meridian news agency previously reported. According to the new standards, medical college students receive 10,000 rubles per year, university students and residents – 20,000 rubles per year.

The authorities expected that this would make medical specialties more attractive to applicants. However, the new law on compulsory work in state clinics, perceived negatively by many, may reduce the effectiveness of such efforts to zero.
