Bore
On this day, the most beloved tree – birch – was honored in Rus'. It was called a tree of life, health and light.
Russian people with birch were connected by many beliefs. A sick child, for example, had to whip the birch rod – and the ailment would leave. If you stick a birch branch into the roof, it will protect the house from lightning. And it is impossible to imagine a Russian bath without a birch broom.
A respectful attitude to birch with the advent of Christianity received a new justification. According to legend, it was under this tree that the Virgin and baby Jesus hid from the bad weather.
On this day, it was necessary to go out into the birch grove – to listen to the trees. This was done in order to determine whether the movement of juice began. The juice was harvested by every family. Sbitrates were cooked from it with the addition of honey and seasonings. Fresh birch juice watered patients. It was believed that this drink cleanses blood and drives out of all kinds of weakness from the stomach.
