The medium-range missile, without a nuclear warhead, struck “an area in Ukraine near the border with Poland and NATO. This constitutes a dangerous and inexplicable new escalation as the United States works with Kiev, other partners and Moscow to end the war through a negotiated settlement.”said the US deputy ambassador to the UN, Tammy Bruce, according to Agerpres.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that its state-of-the-art Oreshnik missile, used on Friday in massive strikes against Ukraine, targeted an aircraft factory in Lviv (Lviv/west).

According to information confirmed by several independent sources, following the strike carried out on the night of January 9 by the Russian armed forces with the help of the “Oreşnik” land-based mobile ballistic missile system, the state-owned aircraft repair plant in Lviv was taken out of service“, indicated the Russian ministry.

The use of this type of missile, for the second time since the beginning of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in 2022, was condemned by the European Union, Berlin, Paris and London, which considered it a “escalation” from Moscow.

On the night of January 8-9, Russia launched an Oreshnik missile attack on Lviv, causing damage to critical infrastructure in the city and widespread power outages in the capital Kyiv.

The Russian attack on Ukraine targeted an underground gas storage facility in Lviv, launching a nuclear missile without a warhead. The attack damaged 20 residential buildings and the Qatari embassy, and an ambulance worker was killed in Kyiv.

Ukrainian authorities accuse Russia of aiming to leave millions without electricity, heat and water, affecting 40 sites in the capital in freezing conditions.
