The director of the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR), Cristian Pistol, announced on Saturday, January 10, that the works on the mountain section of the A1 Sibiu Pitesti Highway have been continuing since the first days of this year.

According to the website 130km.ro, which monitors the state of highway works, the A1 highway starts in Bucharest and ensures the exit to the border with Hungary at Nădlac, passing through Pitești, Sibiu, Deva, Timișoara and Arad.

“The Sibiu-Pitesti highway (A1): works continue on the mountain section, since the first days of this year! Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, the works on Section 2 (Boita-Cornetu) of the Sibiu-Pitesti highway continue without interruption”, announced the director of CNAIR on Facebook.

According to him, the execution strategy emphasizes the critical points where technology allows constant progress, regardless of the season, in compliance with technical quality standards.

Therefore, Cristian Pistol reports, the work on the Robești tunnel (900 m) is progressing.

“We requested the Turkish builder Mapa-Cengiz to maintain the mobilization, which has now reached more than 70 workers and 40 machines.

Excavation on the slope is not hindered by the weather outside, which allows the work to continue safely. 240 meters in the right gallery and 200 meters in the left gallery have already been excavated.

The operations are now being prepared for the dynamiting at the Sibiu end of the Robești tunnel”adds the director of CNAIR.

It states that the flow of materials is ensured by the production of concrete beams and metal fabrications in the Sibiu factory and that 328 concrete beams were completed, produced in optimal conditions, not being exposed to frost during the critical phases of execution.

“For the Boita viaduct, the work on the metal deck continues, using over 4,000 tons of metal from the total requirement of 40,000 tons for this contract.

The physical grade exceeded 8% over the entire 31.33 km section. We constantly monitor the construction site to ensure that the pace of work does not affect the quality of execution”Pistol also states.

Last but not least, the director of CNAIR reminds that the investment is 4.25 billion lei (without VAT), financed through the Transport Program (PT) 2021-2027.

“Our goal remains clear: to connect the Port of Constanța with the western border of Romania through a modern highway.”

Cristian Pistol had announced at the end of last year that, in 2026, CNAIR proposes to open 250 new kilometers of highways and expressways to traffic, of which 125 kilometers on the Moldovei Highway, which will ensure the connection to Pașcani.

According to him, if 2025 is “a historic year for road infrastructure“, under the conditions in which traffic was opened on 146 kilometers of highway and expressway, next year is even more ambitious, the target being 250 new kilometers.
