Restructuring of the mining industry in 2026. PGG without layoffs, but with major changes


The restructuring results from the provisions of the Social Agreement for mining of 2021 and is the next formal stage of its implementation. The liquidation of the Wujek mine is planned to begin on April 1, while the Bielszowice and Halemba mines are to be merged into the single-operation Ruda mine on July 1.

Wujek Mine: final liquidation and transfers
In the case of the Wujek mine approximately 200 employees will be able to use protection packages in 2026 after meeting the statutory conditions and obtaining the employer's consent. These include: mining holidays, leaves for mechanical processing workers of coal and one-off severance pay.
The remaining employees are to be involved in the plant liquidation process or transferred to other PGG unitsprimarily to the Murcki-Staszic mine. The company emphasizes that does not plan any layoffs, and staff changes will involve internal transfers.

Not only Uncle. Changes in the Bielszowice and Halembie mines
The second stage of restructuring will include the merger of the Bielszowice and Halemba mines, scheduled for July 1. A total of approximately 800 employees are to benefit from the protection packages. Approximately 450 people will go on mining leave, 100 will take leave for coal mechanical processing workers, and nearly 250 will receive one-off severance pay.
PGG reminded that already in January 2026, 90 employees of the preparatory departments were transferred from the Bielszowice mine to the Halemba mine. Further allocations are planned – 75 people are to be sent to the Sośnica mine, and other employees to other branches of the company.
Further prospects for mines
As reported by PGG, So far, 1,209 employees of the company's mines and plants have expressed their willingness to receive one-off severance pay, including 490 underground workers and 719 above-ground workers. According to estimates from the beginning of 2026, approximately 4.2 thousand workers will be entitled to mining leaves and leaves for mechanical processing of coal. people.
The company assures that the entire restructuring process will be carried out in close cooperation with the social side, and its aim is to gradually adapt the structure of PGG to the provisions of the social agreement while maintaining jobs for those who want to continue employment in mining.
