Trains also had delays of four hours between Bucharest and Ploiești, due to problems with the traffic management facility

On Wednesday evening, there were major technical problems in the movement of trains between Bucharest and Ploiești, and CFR Călători announced that, in total, 43 trains accumulated more than 6,500 minutes of delay. On Wednesday evening, a company carrying out repair work between Buftea and Periș accidentally cut the signaling cables, CFR Infrastructura announced.
The problems started after 18.00
CFR Infrastructura announced that on Wednesday, at 9:10 p.m., train traffic on line 1 on the Buftea – Periș direction was resumed under normal conditions, and at 10:10 p.m., line 2 on the Periș – Buftea section was also completely repaired.
Thursday morning there were no more long delays between Bucharest and Ploiesti.
What CFR Călători says
“As a result of technical problems that occurred on January 7, 2026 at the traffic control facility, related to the public railway infrastructure managed by CFR SA, on the Periș – Buftea section (line M500), a number of 43 trains operated by CFR Călători were delayed between 50 and 240 minutes, the cumulative total of the minutes of delay being 6,525.
The circulation of trains was and is being carried out based on the operational measures ordered by the railway infrastructure administrator – CFR SA”.
What CFR Infrastructure said about the incident on Wednesday evening
“CFR SA informs that, on January 7, 2026, on the radius of the Bucharest Regional Railway Branch, on the Periș – Buftea traffic section, at railway kilometer 22+110, a technical incident occurred in the area of works carried out by a third company.
During the execution of the works, a commercial company accidentally severed the signaling cables.
As a result of this incident, railway traffic on the Periș – Buftea section is running on a free track. Passenger trains may experience delays compared to the normal timetable”.
