The mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta, sent a message of support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, whom he says is “attacked from all sides” because he “is very disturbing”. Birta's message comes after the liberal Hubert Thuma accused Bolojan of “USR-ization of the PNL” and that he did not support Crin Antonescu in the presidential election.
“Recently, Ilie Bolojan has been attacked from all directions, including from within his own party. The truth is that, when you make difficult decisions, close certain “taps” and try to reform the Romanian state and make this country go in a normal direction, you are disturbing. You are very disturbing,” wrote Florin Birta on Sunday evening, on his Facebook page.
Next, the mayor of Oradea refers, without naming him, to the attack of Hubert Thuma, Bolojan's main challenger in the PNL.
“First of all, he is accused of 'USR-izing' the party. But let's see what happened recently, in the elections for the Capital City Hall. Bolojan supported the best candidate for the position of general mayor from the PNL, Ciprian Ciucu, who won,” Birta also wrote.
“Who ran the Capital City Hall before? Nicușor Dan, supported by USR. Who won the Capital City Hall? Ciprian Ciucu, supported by Bolojan and the PNL”, continued Florin Birta.
About the relationship with Crin Antonescu
Florin Birta also came with “clear clarifications” to the accusations launched by Thuma according to which Ilie Bolojan would have “betrayed” Crin Antonescu in the presidential elections.
“Secondly, he is accused of having “betrayed” Crin Antonescu in the presidential elections. Here I want to make some clear clarifications. First of all, Ilie Bolojan did not run for the Presidency of Romania. And this is essential. He was interim president, he was supported by a lot of people to run and, probably, he was the most entitled to do it. But he did not. He respected the agreement he signed and did not break his word, supporting the candidacy of Crin Antonescu. Whether it was good or bad, only time will tell,” said the mayor of Oradea.
The mayor says that Bolojan participated in the launch of the candidacy and in public events with him, including the events organized in Oradea on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the establishment of the Romanian administration.
“I remember very well a discussion in my office with Crin Antonescu, who told me that he had never seen a politician applauded on the street the way Ilie Bolojan was applauded at those festivities. I am still close to Ilie Bolojan today and I can openly say that we campaigned for Crin Antonescu, even if, in meetings with people, we were often told that he had no chance. In the end, however, as always, the result matters,” he added Birta.
Birta says that in Bihor county Antonescu won the elections, “although we are accused that the people close to Bolojan did not get involved”, and in Ilfov, where the president of the CJ is Thuma, he was in 3rd place.
