EU agreement with Mercosur. The Minister of Agriculture reveals: there will be changes

Poland and France maintain their opposition to the agreement, while Italy's position is still unclear – the minister told journalists.
“We would like to block this agreement, this has been the position of the Polish government from the beginning, but seeing the problem with building a blocking minority (among EU member states – PAP), we need to develop the best possible security for farmers for the future, and this is what is happening at the moment,” emphasized the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Mercosur and the emergency brake
Krajewski reported that the 5% threshold for the so-called emergency brake. This is a procedure intended to protect domestic agricultural producers, which may lead to the abolition of trade benefits for imports from Mercosur countries.
The minister recalled that this threshold was initially 10%, then the European Parliament reduced it to 5%, and then increased it to 8%. — The information we have indicates that it will be 5%. – said Krajewski.

Agreement with Mercosur. Ursula von der Leyen: EUR 45 billion from the EU money for farmers
The agreement negotiated by the European Union with Mercosur, covering Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay, provides for the introduction of preferential duties on selected agricultural products from these countries, such as beef, poultry, dairy products, sugar and ethanol.. In return, Mercosur markets are to be opened to European industrial goods.
The future of the agreement may be decided on Friday at a meeting of ambassadors of EU countries. The minister emphasized that there is no certainty that the decision will be made at all, because it may be postponed again.
Ursula von der Leyen, who is in favor of finalizing the agreement with Mercosur as soon as possible, proposed on Tuesday that in the new financial perspective from 2028, farmers will have accelerated access to EUR 45 billion from the EU funds. The head of the European Commission also wants 10 percent. funds from national and regional plans in the future would go to supporting investments in rural areas. Krajewski welcomed von der Leyen's proposal, but it is still not enough for Poland.
