The worst wave of frost since 2012. Arctic cold hits Europe

In France, the air temperature is 10–15 °C below seasonal norms, the snow level in some places has reached 30 cm. Because of the ice, two people died, two more were injured in road accidents. As a result of bad weather, flights were canceled and school transport in the northwestern regions was disrupted. Electricity demand reached a five-year high and France was forced to activate gas generators.

In Germany, electricity demand exceeded the seasonal average. In Berlin, about 27 thousand houses remain without electricity after a large-scale blackout complicated by frost.

In the UK, temperatures dropped to -12.5C in Margham. Due to snowfall and ice, there were delays and cancellations of train and bus services.

Transport problems are also being reported in the Netherlands; flights have been canceled due to heavy snowfall.

The cold wave led to power outages in several areas of France and Germany, speed limits and a ban on heavy trucks in high-risk regions. Meteorologists are warning of another wave of snow on Wednesday.
