The “Nerazzurri” need victory to return to the top spot in Italy
Chivu's side ended 2025 on top of the Serie A podium with a narrow 1-0 win over Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium.
However, with the identical success recorded by the great rival AC Milan on Friday evening at Cagliari's ground, the vice-champion of Italy and Europe dropped to 2nd in the ranking, being at the moment two lengths away from Max Allegri's team. In 3rd place is Napoli, another two points behind Inter.
So, if it prevails today, the “nerazzurra” formation will take over the leader's chair in Serie A again, regardless of the result that Antonio Conte's team will record in the away game against Lazio, a match that also takes place today, from 1:30 p.m.
In addition, Chivu also has revenge against Vincenzo Italiano after Inter's defeat against Bologna in the semi-finals of the Italian Super Cup. Then, the “rossoblu” group prevailed in penalty kicks (score 3-2, 1-1 after 90 minutes) and thus qualified for the last act, where they would lose to Napoli, 0-2.
Bologna hasn't won since November in Serie A!
On the other hand, tonight's guests are not going through the happiest period domestically.
If about two months ago it was seen as one of the teams fighting with a real chance of winning the “Scudetto”, Bologna entered a drought of victories in the championship, the last success being recorded on November 22, 2025, 3-0 on the field of Udinese.
Since then and until now, Vincenzo Italiano's men have obtained only two points from a possible maximum of 12. Defeats with Juventus (0-1) and newly promoted Cremonese (1-3), respectively draws with Lazio and Sassuolo (both 1-1) have made Bologna fall below the European places in Serie A.
The Rossoblu are currently 7th in Italy, four lengths behind Cesc Fabregas' Como, who are 6th.
