US President Donald Trump has called George Clooney and his wife Amal “two of the dumbest political pundits ever” after they obtained French passports, according to The Guardian.
George Clooney reacted to the statements made by the US president who criticized France's decision to grant French citizenship to the actor and his family. Referring to the November 3, 2026 US midterm elections, Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter: “I totally agree with the current president. We need to make America great again. We're going to start in November.”
The November 2026 United States midterm elections are midway through President Trump's second term and will determine control of the US Congress for the next two years. Recently, the White House leader admitted that his party risks losing the legislative elections.
Trump, whose administration has supported anti-immigration parties in Europe, wrote a post on Truth Social on New Year's Eve about George and Amal Clooney getting French citizenship. He called getting citizenship “good news” because they are “two of the dumbest political forecasters ever”.
“They have officially become citizens of France, which unfortunately has a serious crime problem due to very poor management of immigration, very similar to what we had with the sleeping Joe Biden,” Trump tweeted.
“Remember when Clooney dumped Joe during a fundraiser only to side with another top contender, Jamala(K!)?” he continued.
According to the White House leader, “Clooney got more publicity for his politics than for his few mediocre movies. He wasn't a movie star at all, he was just a normal guy who constantly complained about common sense in politics.”
Clooney, 64, his wife, Amal Alamuddin Clooney, and their two children became French citizens earlier this month after living in a property in southern France for years. The Oscar winner praised French privacy laws that protected his family from international media intrusion, as well as being able to raise his children outside of Hollywood.
