A dog of the Pitic Teckel breed, whose rescue after 529 days of disappearance on an Australian island has caught the attention of the media around the world, has a good condition, the representatives of an organization generally deal with saving wild animals, Reuters reported.
The story of the survival of the Valerie puppy made a sensation after being rescued on the island of kangaroos on Friday, about 14 km from the South Australia coast.
Valerie disappeared in November 2023, when her masters traveled on the popular island, among tourists, according to local press.
“He feels very, very good,” said Jared Karran, director Kangara Wildlife Rescue, about Valerie in a video posted on the Facebook page of the charitable organization.
His comments came after the association, set up following the Fire Catastrophs of Australia in 2019-2020, events known as “Black Summer” (black summer), said on Friday that he is “delighted to announce Valerie's successful saving.”
“We are absolutely delighted and deeply relieved that Valerie is finally safe and can start the transition back to her loving parents, Josh and Georgia,” the organization said.
The mission to rescue the puppy lasted over 1,000 hours of volunteers, said the charitable organization, adding that vehicles and “numerous rooms and traps” have been involved.
