The leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadîrov was urgently hospitalized in Moscow on the night of December 24-25, a source from his entourage told the European edition of the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta. According to the newspaper, Kadîrov had come to the Russian capital to attend a meeting of the State Council chaired by Vladimir Putin, but his health condition suddenly worsened and he ended up in hospital.
The Chechen leader was transported by ambulance to the Central Clinical Hospital serving the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation.
No backup plan was provided for such a case, so the meeting of the State Council continued without the participation of a representative of the Chechen Republic.
“They barely resuscitated him in Moscow, after which he returned home and has not appeared in public since,” the source close to the head of Chechnya told Novaya Gazeta.
Since the beginning of 2025, when the head of Chechnya was admitted to the Aimedi private clinic in Groznyi, Kadîrov's condition continued to visibly deteriorate. He indirectly admitted this during a recent live Q&A session, revealing that he has gone on vacation four times in the year 2025, the publication recalls.
He also commented on the obvious signs of his health.
“Sometimes I have nervous breakdowns. A constant feeling of tension, like sitting on electricity,” said the head of Chechnya, who put the condition down to concern for Chechen fighters in the war in Ukraine.
The disease from which Kadîrov would suffer
According to Novaya Gazeta sources, Kadîrov received consultations from German doctors twice this year.
At the same time, during the year, Kadîrov denied rumors about his illness several times. In September, he said he was doing 50 push-ups every time he was told “that everything is not right with his health”.
Novaya Gazeta sources claim that Kadîrov may have kidney problems. There is also a version according to which he would suffer from pancreatic necrosis. However, no one knows the exact diagnosis, as information in this regard is carefully hidden, Ibrahim Yangulbaev, the leader of the Chechen opposition movement “Adat”, emphasized.
