Asked if Canada's prime minister has done something in the last week to complicate negotiations, Trump replied: “Cary is a great man, but it can be very harsh. He is a world -class leader, he does an excellent job and he is a redoubtable negotiator.”
When a journalist asked why he does not conclude an agreement with Ottawa, if he appreciates the prime minister, Trump replied in his characteristic style: “Because I want to be a great man too.”stirring laughter in the room, BBC reports.
Referring to commercial discussions, Trump said the new agreement “It will include everything,” including the dairy sector, and added that “The people of Canada will love us again,” without giving additional details about the content of the negotiations.
Prime Minister Mark Cariy thanked the American leader for receiving him, praising him upright “A transformer president” and mentioning his achievements, including “The unprecedented commitments of NATO partners for increasing defense expenses” and “Neutralization of Iran as a terrorist force.”
The discussion took a slightly comic tone when Trump intervened spontaneously, talking about “A possible merger between the United States and Canada”, a joke that raised laughter in the room.
“I didn't want to get there,” Cariy replied, smiling and continuing his speech. He added that Ottawa supports the peace plan for Israel and Gaza proposed by the Trump administration and that “He will do everything he can to support this initiative.”
