Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on holding the International Youth Festival in September 2026. Yekaterinburg was chosen as the venue, and not Krasnoyarsk, where the event was planned earlier.

The President also approved the composition of the organizing committee. Its presidium included representatives of the presidential administration, deputy federal ministers and the governor of the Sverdlovsk region Denis Pasler.

The festival should contribute to the development of international youth cooperation. Previously Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov repeatedly announced an event in Krasnoyarskwhich was supposed to surpass the Winter Universiade in terms of the number of participants. It was expected that 10 thousand people would come to the city, half of them foreigners.

However, Kotyukov later asked to postpone the festival in Krasnoyarsk to 2028 due to the city’s large-scale preparations for the 400th anniversary. The federal center has chosen another site for next year.
