The perpetrators of the burglary “took advantage of the quiet holiday days”
As a police spokesman in Gelsenkirchen told T-Online, the case concerns a bank in the northern part of the city. Most likely, the perpetrators got inside from the parking lot and then used a drill. They must have known exactly where the bank vault was. “They took advantage of the quiet holiday days,” he said, adding that they showed extraordinary cleverness and everything looked “like in a movie.”
The last such spectacular break-in into a German bank took place in 2013 in Berlin. It was called the heist of the century – the perpetrators dug a tunnel approximately 45 m long and stole loot worth approximately EUR 10 million. Some traces then led to Poland. However, the perpetrators were never found.
