Britain announced on Sunday that it had signed a joint procurement contract worth 52 million pounds ($70 million) with Germany to buy advanced artillery mounted on armored vehicles, which can fire on the move and hit targets more than 70 meters (44 miles) away, Reuters writes.

A Ministry of Defense statement said the deal would provide the British Army with an early demonstration of the RCH 155 system's capability, and Germany with two units for testing.

The system is manufactured by the Franco-German defense group KNDS and the German arms company Rheinmetall.

The system can fire eight rounds per minute on the move, operate with two crew members and travel 700 kilometers without refueling, the British Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
