I’m making barbecue sauce in the kitchen – the neighbors are asking for the recipe: a picnic without any hassles or extra expenses

At the beginning of May, when we open the picnic season, we want to surprise our loved ones not only with meat, but also with the right accompaniment. Store-bought sauces are often too sweet or have an artificial aftertaste. Homemade dressing based on sour cream and herbs solves this problem: it is refreshing, emphasizes the taste of coals and is prepared from what is already in the refrigerator.

What you will need:

200 g thick sour cream or natural yoghurt
Bunch of fresh cilantro and dill
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Pinch of salt and black pepper

How to cook:

  • Finely chop the greens with a knife to maintain texture and flavor.
  • Pass the garlic through a press or grate it on a fine grater.
  • Mix sour cream with herbs, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
  • Let the sauce sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve with hot barbecue, baked vegetables or pita bread.

This sauce does not interrupt the taste of the meat, but complements it.

Important: use chilled sour cream. This way the sauce holds its shape better and does not spread over the plate. For a lighter version, replace half the sour cream with plain, plain yogurt.

Serve the sauce in small bowls or place into serving bowls.

Bon appetit!
