At the beginning of May, when we open the picnic season, we want to surprise our loved ones not only with meat, but also with the right accompaniment. Store-bought sauces are often too sweet or have an artificial aftertaste. Homemade dressing based on sour cream and herbs solves this problem: it is refreshing, emphasizes the taste of coals and is prepared from what is already in the refrigerator.
What you will need:
200 g thick sour cream or natural yoghurt
Bunch of fresh cilantro and dill
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Pinch of salt and black pepper
How to cook:
- Finely chop the greens with a knife to maintain texture and flavor.
- Pass the garlic through a press or grate it on a fine grater.
- Mix sour cream with herbs, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper.
- Let the sauce sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve with hot barbecue, baked vegetables or pita bread.
This sauce does not interrupt the taste of the meat, but complements it.
Important: use chilled sour cream. This way the sauce holds its shape better and does not spread over the plate. For a lighter version, replace half the sour cream with plain, plain yogurt.
Serve the sauce in small bowls or place into serving bowls.
Bon appetit!
