According to Salvamont Argeș, the evacuation operation was scheduled for Monday morning. “At 07:30, the first response team of Salvamont Argeș, located at Refugiul Capra, will start moving towards Călțun”, the mountain rescuers said.
In support, a team consisting of five mountain rescuers will leave Pitesti, endowed and equipped for an intervention in extreme weather conditions.
Salvamont warns that wind gusts of up to 130 km/h, snow transport and very low temperatures are recorded in the area.
“We hope that the weather will help us and we will carry out the mission in maximum safety, both for the rescuers and for the evacuees”, said Salvamont Argeș.
The authorities recommend that tourists avoid traveling in the mountainous area during the code red weather warnings.
Meteorologists issued a new extreme weather warning for areas in 11 counties on Sunday, valid starting today, from 10:00 a.m., until December 29, 10:00 a.m. At the same time, the weather forecast was updated, almost the entire country being affected by weather alerts.
The red code for blizzards covers the mountain areas of the Southern Carpathians and Curbura.
At altitudes “of more than 1700 m, there will be snow accompanied by very strong winds, with gust speeds of more than 120 km/h and which will cause the visibility to decrease to almost zero”, announces the ANM in the weather forecast.
The warning of very strong blizzard in high areas was also sent by an RO-Alert message. “Avoid travel and take shelter and self-protection measures,” says the message sent to tourists on the mountain.
