US President Donald Trump said he had a “good and very productive” phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin ahead of his upcoming meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida.
“I just had a good and very productive phone call with Russian President Putin ahead of my meeting (…) today with Ukrainian President Zelensky,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to the United States for a meeting with his American counterpart in Florida at Mar-a-Lago, and the focus of the discussion will be the draft 20-point plan to end the war launched by Russia against Ukraine in February 2022.
After weeks of talks to amend an earlier, 28-point draft considered to be far too close to Moscow's main demands, Zelenskiy said this week that most positions had converged significantly.
“To be honest, the 20-point plan we worked on is 90% ready. Our task is to bring it to 100%. Every meeting and every conversation brings us closer to the desired result,” the Ukrainian leader said on Friday, according to the Kyiv Post.
