SGK spoke about the new environmentally friendly power unit of the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 / Economic news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

December 22, 2025 marked an important event in the energy sector of Siberia: the second power unit was officially launched at the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3. This year, this is the only commissioning of power generating equipment built from scratch in Russia.
The project was implemented using the CSA-2 mechanism and is part of the federal program “Clean Air” of the national project “Ecological Well-Being”.

The new power unit was built taking into account advanced environmental technologies. Simultaneously with the new equipment, the most modern electric precipitator was put into operation at the station. This gigantic installation, the size of a 14-story building and as tall as the “Feathers” rock on the Krasnoyarsk Pillars, is considered one of the most effective for capturing small dust particles. Under the influence of an electric field, they are attracted to the plates inside the filter and then collected in a special hopper.
Thanks to this technology, the degree of gas purification is 99.7%. By the way, two such filters are installed at CHPP-3: the previous one was launched along with the first power unit in 2012.
To increase the height of emissions dispersion and reduce their ground concentration, a 275-meter chimney was built at CHPP-3. The pipe is equipped with special sensors of an automated online monitoring system that monitor the quality of operation of the treatment equipment by measuring the concentration of substances in the exhaust gases in a continuous mode. The indicators are reflected on the SGC website and are available to all residents of Krasnoyarsk. In the near future, after technical adjustments, the information will be broadcast on the Rosprirodnadzor website.
In addition, to reduce the load on the Yenisei River, the city’s first cooling tower with a height of 88 meters was built at the station, and for the first time a dry slag and ash removal system was provided, which will allow waste to be stored more compactly without expanding storage space.
“The launch of the second power unit allows us to ensure the highest economic, energy and environmental indicators. We see here the highest level of use of modern electrostatic precipitators, careful water use technology and a significant reduction in the load on the atmospheric air of Krasnoyarsk and on our key water artery – the Yenisei River,” emphasized the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov during the ceremony of the ceremonial launch of the second power unit of the Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3.
The effect of introducing environmental technologies into the work of generation was also noted by deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
“The commissioning of the second power unit at Krasnoyarsk CHPP-3 is a new technological step for the development of Krasnoyarsk and heat production technologies. However, there is another important component in the development of the region’s energy sector – ecology. I remember what thermal power plants were like before—as a child, I lived next to such a facility. Today, what struck me most was the perfect cleanliness in the working area of the power unit and the white snow on the territory of the thermal power plant,” shared Alexey Kulesh, Chairman of the Committee on Construction, Housing and Public Utilities and Civil Defense and Emergency Issues of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Let us remind you that the construction of power unit No. 2 at CHPP-3 began in 2022. The project was implemented in just 4 years, investments exceeded 30 billion rubles. 38 organizations and over 1,500 specialists from different regions of the country were involved in the construction site, which emphasizes the significance of the project on a Russian scale. The new power unit almost doubled the station's capacity, allowing it to generate 185 MW of electricity and 270 Gcal/hour of heat. This is enough to illuminate half of Krasnoyarsk and heat 450 new multi-storey buildings.
“This is the result of a partnership between the state and business, when effective investments made it possible to solve important national problems. We managed to create a unit that meets the most modern technical and environmental requirements and standards. This once again proves that coal generation can be not only reliable, but also environmentally friendly,” said Oleg Petrov, technical director of SGK LLC.
